Featured on ‘The Canadian Mixtape Project’

This compilation album was released by HeroHill blogs in January of this year. It is the first installment of their cross-country spotlight, and this one has music from Nova Scotia. Many genres are covered, giving you some folk, pop, rock and hip hop. Some of the highlights are a new song from Ghost Bees, the Superfantastics, Classified ft. Maestro, a live Joel Plaskett track and of course the next big Canadian songstress, Jenn Grant. Markit’s song Supermarkit is included in the mix.

The full tracklist is listed below, click the album’s back cover to download the full zip.

Markit Down In History - WEEK 6

The Forgotten from Mark My Words (2007). Production by Jonnybisk, Cuts by Jorun Bombay.

The Forgotten made the following press appearances:

  • “The Forgotten finds Markit paying tribute to soul music legends like Otis Redding and Earth, Wind & Fire, which is impressive considering most rappers Markit’s age wouldn’t know Otis Redding from Otis Spunkmeyer.” (Herohill Reviews, August 9, 2007)
  • “The songs Markit is most eager to share and discuss aren’t the bangers, or I’m-number-one cuts (which there are very few of anyway), but songs like “The Forgotten” which “pay(s) ode to older artists like Earth, Wind and Fire, Otis Redding and Miles Davis,” he says. “They’re the reason why hip-hop is what it is right now.” (The Coast, Markit’s Work, by Mark Black, September 20, 2007)

Legato Block

legatoblock

Formed in 2006, Markit and Metropolis Votary had the intention of creating a group influenced by their favorite poets and jazz musicians. The resulting product was a collection of songs, poems and interludes. The main goal behind Legato Block was to create music that was anti abrasive, abstractly tuned with dissonance. Something one could smoke or fall asleep to. Lyrically composed to not follow generic formulas, musically constructed to soothe and intrigue.
